This is a flythrough animation that takes you to the Governor's House located towards the back of the castle compound. It was built in 1742 and the right hand wing continues to be one of the residences for the Governor mostly for ceremonial purposes. The rest of the bulding was converted into an officers' mess for the Scottish Command. |

This is a flythrough animation that takes you to the Provost Marshal's Quarters built in 1842 and located in the furthest rear area of the castle. The Provost Marshal was responsible for the Military Prison which is located in the same area. The Royal Scots Museum can be seen to its left. |

This is a flythrough animation that takes you to the Water Tower located in the rear upper level of the castle. This building was built in the 19th century to contain the castle's water supply. The castle bookshop can be seen to its right. |

Bird's eye view of Esplanade and Gatehouse3.2 Mb |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the Castle Esplanade and Gatehouse. The Esplanade, in its present form was built during the last 200 years. The Gatehouse was completed in 1888 which replaced a plainer entrance built in the 17th century. Inside the Gatehouse was accommodation for the castle guard and detention cells. A court martial room was located on the upper level. |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the Scottish National War Memorial Building. It was originally built as the national shrine to the Scottish soldiers who died in Worl War I. The Memorial now also commemorates those who also fell in World War II and military theaters since 1945. The original building was constructed in 1755 as a soldiers' barracks. |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the New Barracks, even though it was built over 200 years ago. The New Barracks were built in the 1790s as a result of Britain's war with France. It was designed to accommodate some 600 officers and men. It continues to serve for variety of military purposes. |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the Queen Anne Building built in 1708. The building was originally used by officers of the castle garrison as well as the gunners. |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the cartshed built in the 1740s. It was originally built to house up to 50 carts which brought provisions to the troops from the town below. In the 19th century it was converted into a soldiers' barracks and in 1992 it became the castle's restaurant. |

This is a 360 degree bird's eye view of the The Royal Scots Museum. The building began as a drill hall in 1900. Today it holds pictures, models, artefacts and medals of the Royal Scots Regiment's history, from its formation in 1633 through to the present day. |
